Data Loss Can be the End of Your Business

Data Loss Can be the End of Your Business

There are marketing and advertising campaigns all over the place talking about online security and data breaches. It doesn’t matter the industry or size of the company, it can happen anytime to anyone. While all that is true and important, what isn’t emphasized enough is how devastating data loss can be for businesses.

“7 out of 10 small firms that experience a major data loss go out of business within a year,” reported DTI/PriceWaterhouseCoopers.

Why is that fact so startling? For one, companies aren’t prepared when there is an outage or a hack.

“96% of all business workstations are not being backed up,” reported the Contingency Planning & Strategic Research Corp. Which means, when bad things happen, there’s no easy fix and most of the information is lost forever. Can you imagine doing payroll if all of our employee information and hours just disappeared?

“93% of companies that lost their data center for 10 days or more due to a disaster filed for bankruptcy within one year of the disaster,” QuestCloud reported.

Not only is the livelihood of your business at stake, but data loss and security breaches can dramatically impact your profit margin. After an incident happens, you are at the mercy of the problem and will have to pay an often inflated rate for “emergency” service.

There were “$55 billion in costs due to virus attacks in the US alone,” reported Trend Micro.
