Cyber Attacks Grow as a Result of Gaza

It's been a solid decade of conflict surrounding the small area known as the Gaza Strip. But the fighting isn't just happening in the streets-hackers and cyber criminals are taking a side as well.

According to a recently released report by the Arbor Network, there has been a dramatic increase in Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks.

"The conflict, as well as the number of DDoS attacks initiated per day both intensify until we notice a precipitous drop occurring on July 28th lasting through August 2nd," stated the report.figure2 DDoS attacks increased as the conflict grew.[/caption]

"Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks are used to flood a website or service with traffic to the point systems cannot cope, denying other users access to the website. Arbor detected a rise in the number of DDoS attacks targeting Israel in the first week of July, going from an average of 30 attacks per day to an average of 150 attacks initiated per day in July -- peaking at 429 attacks on July 21st," reported Charlie Osborn.
